Safe Glow™ photoluminescent egress products, are a vast improvement over traditional egress products. According to the World Commission on the Environment and Development (WCED), sustainability is “a form of development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Safe Glow is seeking to provide sustainable design, which goes far beyond simply creating products that benefit consumers in terms of cleaner air environment, cost savings and durability.
According to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the following questions should be asked to determine if a product is sustainable:
1. Does it have a long life?
2. Does it save energy?
Photoluminescent products require only existing ambient light to operate effectively. Other than existing lighting, the electricity, and the components required to deliver and store that electricity are no longer needed.
In addition to the energy savings above, numerous products will no longer be required for emergency egress:
Conduit
Wiring
Ballasts
Batteries
LED’s
Bulbs
And more
That results in saving all energy costs for manufacturing,
shipping, repairing, replacing, and recycling of these un-needed products.
3. Does it add durability?
4. Does it contribute to the waste stream?
Unlike traditional signage which incorporate components that end up in landfills, Safe Glow™ products do not create waste.
5. Is it renewable and recyclable?
Safe Glow™ products are currently undergoing testing for the percentage of content of each of our products that is recyclable. We are confident of receiving a high rating in this testing.
Safe Glow™ strives to continually seek efficiency in our product design, manufacturing and shipping alternatives to promote a Greener environment for us, for our children, and their children.
In some instances, end-use can account for as much as 90 percent of a product’s impact on the environment. For this reason, Safe Glow™ has established certified recyclers who are capable of recycling a high percentage of each product’s components after their useful life. Please contact us for a list of recyclers in your area.
